The Port of Guangzhou's
throughput exceeded 400 million tons Monday morning, becoming the third
largest international port on the Chinese mainland behind the ports of
Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan.
Guangzhou Port connects businesses with over 350 ports in 80
countries around the world. According to Mr. Chang Min, Director General
of the Guangzhou Port Authority, the port plans to invest about 20
billion Yuan to improve the port's facilities in the near future. With
20 new deep water berths and a new handling capacity of 150 million
tons, throughput is expected to reach 500 million tons, while container
throughput should reach 18 million TEU by 2015.
