Operation of the Shenzhen Metro Line 4 will be taken over by Hong Kong's MTR Corporation next month, a press conference was told Tuesday (June 22).

The Hong Kong company, which has opened a Shenzhen office to manage the Metro line, said that all existing logos along the line would be changed to the MTR logo, but that fares would remain unchanged.

The Shenzhen city government signed a BOT concession agreement with MTR March 18 last year. Under the agreement, MTR will hold a 30-year franchise to operate the Metro line while it finances the design and construction of the extended section.

The existing Line 4 currently runs from Futian Checkpoint to the Children's Palace in Futian District. It will be extended by 16 km to Qinghu, with 10 stations including an interchange to future high-speed rail services at New Shenzhen Railway Station in Longhua New Town. The extension is expected to go into operation in the middle of next year.

MTR will assume all operating, maintenance and asset replacement costs, but will not be able to develop property along the extension.
