Guangdong officials have ordered relevant government departments to prepare for the first typhoon to hit the province this year, according to Nanfang Daily. A four level hurricane emergency response was issued yesterday (July 14) by the  provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.

Typhoon Conson left waters east of the Philippines and began heading towards the South China Sea early Tuesday morning, according to Xinhua report. It is moving toward Hainan and Guangdong provinces at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 90 kph near the center. The storm is expected to make its landfall on Friday night or Saturday in the west coast of Guangdong province.

The arrival of Conson will bring heavy rainfall and help ease the heat wave scorching Guangdong province.
