The Hakka people inhabit in the provinces of Guangdong, Jiangxi and Fujian in the Chinese mainland, and Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan Island, as well as Southeast Asia. The Hakka and their rich culture have had a significant influence on the course of Chinese and overseas Chinese history over centuries of migrations. There are Hakka museums in many places around the world, and now the largest Hakka museum in China has opened to the public.

The museum is located at the Fine Arts School of Gannan Normal College, in Ganzhou city of East China's Jiangxi Province. It has a huge collection of over six-thousand Hakka cultural relics. The collection is divided into five categories — architecture and decoration, tablets, silverware and ornaments, costumes, and living utensils. Ganzhou City is the cradle of Hakka culture, and about ninety percent of Ganzhou residents are Hakka. The museum provides a platform to gather, research and showcase Hakka history and culture.
